Our Purpose:

We exist as a church community to make Jesus famous in the Las Vegas Valley and to the ends of the earth.

"For Christ, For Las Vegas, and For the Nations"

Our Goal:

20 churches in 20 years that will reach 20 thousand people.

Our Six Pillars:

1. Full Contact Worship:  experiencing God in worship all the time.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit, and truth for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth."     John 4:23-24

2. Bold Evangelism:  sharing our faith without fear.

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."      Romans 1:16

3. Solid Discipleship:  growing into full devotion to Jesus 24/7.

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."    Colossians 2:6-7

4. A Movement of Prayer:  learning to make a difference on our knees.

"They all joined together constantly in prayer."    Acts 1:12

5. The Training of Leaders:  producing tomorrow's leaders for our church and others.

"Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust."     Acts 14:23

6. Strategic  Service:  understanding how God has wired us and wants to use us.

"As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love."    Ephesians 4:16

Our “Rally Cry”:  Going  to heaven and taking as many people with us as we can!

What We Believe

"...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," 1 Peter 3:15

Biblical AuthorityStatement of Belief
[1] Deuteronomy 6:4
[2]
Matthew 5:48
[3]
Matthew 28:19
The Nature of the Triune God
There is one God
[1], who is infinitely perfect [2], existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit [3].
[4] Philippians 2:6-11
[5] Luke 1:36-38
[6] I Peter 3:18
[7] Hebrews 2:9
[8] Romans 5:9
[9] Acts 2:23,24
[10] Hebrews 8:1
[11] Matthew 26:64
The Nature of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the true God and the true man
[4].  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary [5]. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust [6], as a substitutionary sacrifice [7], and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood [8]. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures [9].  He is now at the right hand of Majesty on high as our great High Priest [10].  He will come again to establish His kingdom, righteousness and peace [11].
[12] John 14:15-18
[13]
John 16:13, Acts 1:9
[14]
John 16:7-11
The Nature of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a divine person [12], sent to dwell, guide, teach, empower the believer [13], and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment [14].
[15] II Peter 1:20-21, II Timothy 3:15-16The Inerrancy of Scripture
The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice
[15].
[16] Genesis 1:27
[17] Romans 3:23
[18] I Corinthians15:20-23
[19] Revelation 21:8
[20] Revelation 21:1-4
The Creation and Fall of Man
Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God
[16]: he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature [17], are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ [18].  The portion of the unrepentant and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment [19]; and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss [20].
[21] Titus 3:4-7 Divine Provision for Human Salvation
Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God
[21].
   [22] I Thessalonians 5:23
[23] Acts 1:8
[24] Romans 6:1-14
 Indwelling of Believers
God wills that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly
[22], being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service [23]. This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion [24].
[25] Matthew 8:16-17
[26] James 5:13-16
Healing
Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body
[25].    Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the Church in this present age [26].
[27] Ephesians 1:22-23
[28] Matthew 28:19-20
[29] Acts 2:41-47
Church, Definition of
The Church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church [27], which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations [28].  The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper [29].
[30] I Corinthians 15:20-23
[31] John 5:28-29
Resurrection
There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life
[30]; for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment [31].
[32] Hebrews 10:37
[33] Luke 21:27
[34] Titus 2:11-14
The Return of Jesus Christ (the Second Coming)
The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent
[32], and will be personal, visible, and premillenial [33].  This is the believer's blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service [34].

South Hills Church Community started as a dream and a calling from God to Bret Johnson, an established Pastor working at a large church in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Bret’s wife, Sallie, and family agreed to move and felt God’s leading to the rapidly growing Las Vegas valley.  Below is a summary timeline of our history from then:

June 2000       Five young adults (all in their early to mid-20’s) moved with the Johnson’s to Las Vegas.  Not knowing a soul in the valley, this small cadre began to meet people and share their dream of starting a new church that would eventually start other churches.

Sept. 2000      20-30 people started meeting in the living room of the Johnson’s home on Sunday evenings.  After only two more months this group had grown to more than 50 people and found it necessary to move into an apartment clubhouse where the other members of the founding team were living.

Jan. 2001       After six months of living in the valley, South Hills Church Community celebrated its official grand opening at the brand new Bob Miller Middle School at the west end of Green Valley in Henderson.  192 people were at the grand opening service on January 4, 2001.  During its first year, South Hills Church met only on Sunday evenings and average attendance was about 150.

2002              The church added a morning service and attendance climbed to nearly 300. Janice Yurek joined the staff in May, and Chris Lyons in December.

Jan. 2004        When South Hills Church celebrated its third anniversary it transitioned to two morning services (dropping the evening service) and averaged 400 in attendance.

Aug. 2004        We moved into our current facility .  Lighthouse Academy opens.  Alex Smidt joins the staff (to plant our first daughter church).  Neal Benson joins the staff in November of 2004.

2005                As the church moves into its fifth year, attendance grows to 600.  South Hills Church has experienced 40% annual growth in both attendance and giving over the last four years.  Our first daughter church, Soulstice, launches on Sept. 11th, 2005 with a grand opening of 142.

2006                South Hills celebrates its Fifth Anniversary with Fernando Ortega.  Average attendance in 2006 is 710 after expansion of Worship Center and Gathering Room.

The Bureau of Land Management grants South Hills the right to purchase 10 acres at the I-215 & St. Rose Pkwy. intersection to build a permanent church campus.  Plans for Phase One building are approved.  The RENOWN campaign for our new campus realizes pledges of  $2,702,000.
