My Speech PDF Print E-mail

I am challenged, commanded and encouraged to speak differently as a follower of Jesus.  I am to not use coarse joking or filthy language, instead I am to have a mouth full of thanksgiving and say things that build others up and add value:

"Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them." Ephesians 4:29

"Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes--these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God." Ephesians 5:4

"Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone." Colossians 4:6

"Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old evil nature and all its wicked deeds." Colossians 3:9

"So also, the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A tiny spark can set a great forest on fire." James 3:5

Whew!  What a challenge.  Today, I really want to make my words count and say things that bless others and build them up-- words that make a positive difference.

Jesus, if I walked around physically with you today I know I would be stunned by your talk.  I dedicate my lips to you and pray that you will "occupy" them with your power today.  Amen.
